Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Thank you for everyone who joined us for our Easter Service in St Thomas’s yesterday. The theme of the service was a celebration of Easter and we sang three hymns together and all classes presented a song or poem. The Collective Worship Team retold the Easter story and Reverend Sarah helped us to remember that Easter is a time for sharing love with those around us. Thank you to everyone who entered the Decorated Egg and Easter Garden Competitions. We had some fabulous entries which were judged by Mrs Cook and Mrs Tennant. Well done to everyone who entered and to our winners.
Sport Relief 2018
On Wednesday 21st March, Mrs Taylor set our school a Sport Relief challenge of running 336km from Green Hammerton Primary to Buckingham Palace, which is a total of 1976 laps of our field.
Each class had a set amount of time to complete as many laps as possible.
In total we completed 2182 laps of the field, which is 370.94km.
A big thank you needs to go to the members of staff who participated in the challenge, especially Mrs McCully and Mrs Taylor who organised the event and did 64 laps!!!
Thank you to the Sport Council who helped throughout the day.
Congratulations everyone!
On Thursday 8th February Classes 3 and 4 were invited to visit the new show homes at the Redrow housing development. Children from Class 4 cut the ribbon to open the homes and then explored the bedroom which has been designed using their artistic ideas. We were also grateful to be presented with a cheque for £250 towards school funds.
The article is now published on the Redrow Website and will be in the York Press.

On Friday 9th February Classes 2 and 4 visited Ripon Cathedral. They enjoyed a tour of the cathedral, and learned about the different parts of the building and the special services that take place there. Class 3 will also visit the cathedral after half term. All three classes are then creating artwork inspired by the cathedral to enter the Ripon Cathedral in Frame Competition.
On Wednesday 7th February we celebrated the end of our 'Around the World in 24 days' theme by having a Global afternoon. Each class chose a country and the children in that class wore clothes to represent the colours of their flag. At the start of the afternoon the children performed their Mardi Gras dances. The children then worked in house teams and did an activity and tried some food from each country. Class 1 chose Africa where the children performed Lion King dances, Class 2 chose Germany where the children made alpine hats, Class 3 chose Spain where the children learned Flamenco dancing and Class 4 chose Australia where the children designed boomerangs. The Lion King dances were so good that we had a ‘Flash Mob’ dance the next day on the school field, thank you to Mrs Taylor for helping us with this.
On Monday 22nd July we took the School Choir to the Young Voices Event at Sheffield Arena. During the afternoon the children had a rehearsal with the live band which was led by David Lawrence, a professional conductor. After a break and a packed tea we then watched all the families arrive for the performance. 5000 children sang in the Young Voices choir and the sound was incredible. We enjoyed performances from professional singers and the dance company Urban Strides. The children from our school were excellent ambassadors for the school and we were incredibly proud of them throughout the event. Thank you to Miss Couthlard and Mrs Law for coming with us, and to all of the parents who travelled to the arena, and bought t-shirts and tickets for the event.
We have had a lovely first week back at school. The children seem refreshed after their break and we have enjoyed hearing about their Christmas news. Thank you for all of the cards and gifts that the staff received at the end of term.
