To mark Christian Aid week we are holding an art exhibition in St Thomas’s Church. Children will create art based on the Christian Aid Week theme of Climate Change and we will display it in the chapel. Each class will display their work on one of the dates below and there will be a viewing session between 3.30 and 4.30pm on each day. Unfortunately due to current guidelines staff will not be able to be present. Dates for viewing are:
The Yo Yo team have continued to be very kind in their support for school. Marion and Tamsin visited on Monday 10th May to lead an outdoor session for each class which were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Classes 1 and 2 focused on the Prodigal Son Bible Story through Godly Play and Classes 3 and 4 enjoyed sessions focusing on Ascension and Pentecost.
In memory of Captain Tom Moore completing his 100 steps challenge, the Year 5 children in Class 3 organised a ‘100 something’ event. They set a number of challenges around the school field for children to complete including 100 skips, catches, runs and goals. We also wrote 100 word poems thanking Captain Tom and completed a variety of ‘make 100’ number problems. We would like to congratulate the Year 5 children for organising a fantastic event for the rest of the school!
Each class enjoyed a session with Marion and Tamsin from York Youth Trust Today. The sessions focused on Creation and we were amazed with some of the questions that the children asked.
Steph Cooper from Christian Aid visited Collective Worship on Thursday 30th January. She spoke about how she had been a global ambassador when she visited Zambia with Christian Aid to help make a well. The children were really interested in Steph’s experiences and asked some great questions such as; Why do the children have short hair?
Do they have any technology? Do the children grow as tall as we do? What animals did you see in Zambia? The talk helped us to understand how Christian Aid use the money that we raise. We were fortunate to have such a sunny afternoon on Wednesday for our Shakespeare musical, which celebrated the end of our Brilliantly British theme. The children in Class 1 and 2 started the performance by singing a song about castles. Then our musicians played Elizabethan Music on recorders and drums, to change the mood for the Shakespeare musical. The children in Years 5 and 6 acted the play which told the story of a Shakespeare play being performed at the Globe theatre. All the children in school joined in with the songs and have learned so many facts about William Shakespeare by singing them. Thank you to the family members who came to watch and well done to the children for performing so well.
Diana from Blue Cross (Pet Rescue) came to host an assembly at our school. She talked to us about: how to look after pets; what pets require (food, water, care, love, exercise) and the importance of being kind to animals. Our children learnt, through role play, how to approach an unknown dog and the three Cs of canine choice - check, call, count. Check is asking the owner if you can stroke the dog, call is calling the dog to you by patting your legs and saying 'Hello' and count is when you count three strokes and give the dog the choice to walk away or stay.
What a brilliant and very informative assembly for our pet-loving pupils!
