PAFRAS Thank You Harvest 2020
To: Green Hammerton C of E Primary School
Dear Friends & Supporters,
Thank you very much for your Harvest donations, this is very kind of you.
We continued to support asylum seekers facing destitution in Leeds, throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, making sure we reach those who needed it the most.
We made sure clients had access to critical necessities to meet basic human need, such as food and toiletries, and we also bought radios, mobile phones and top-up to keep people connected and to keep occupied. We kept our weekly drop-in going, working out of the car park at St Aidan's, and made several deliveries every day.
The lockdown that most people experienced had many parallels with the average life of an asylum seeker in the UK: fear, uncertainty, being physically cut off from friends and family, money worries, not being able to work, relying on the state for support. Whilst many people are now returning to some sort of normality, asylum seekers are still facing these difficulties. Many homeless asylum seekers were temporarily housed during the height of the pandemic, but we know that evictions will begin soon and options for referring to emergency accommodation are severely reduced. The crisis for many people we work with is just beginning.
