I am currently completing my NPQ for SENCO qualification. As both a SEND professional and a parent of a child with SEND, I bring a wealth of knowledge, empathy, and determination to my role. I am committed to ensuring that every child is supported to reach their full potential academically, socially and spiritually.
Some of our pupils may need a little extra help and this is where our Special Educational Needs and Disability support comes in. We strive to ensure that each child with additional needs is offered support that is tailored to meet their needs. At Green Hammerton CE Primary School and Nursery all staff work closely with children, parents/carers and where appropriate outside agencies to develop each child's individual support package.
If you are a parent, or carer, and you are looking to move your child to our school and have any questions about our SEND provisions please feel free to get in touch. Our SEND Governor are Mark Cappleman & Martin Sanderson who can also be contacted through the School Office. A link to the school's contact details are below. At the bottom of the contact details page there is also a link to contact the SENCO email directly.
SEN Local Offer All schools are required to publish a link to the SEN 'local offer'. This is a link to the range of services provided by North Yorkshire County Council. |

At Green Hammerton CE Primary and Nursery we strive to meet the needs of all pupils to allow them to achieve to the best of their ability, whilst feeling happy and safe within our care. We support all areas of need and believe that staff, parents and outside agencies should all work together and with the children to identify needs and offer support. The four broad areas of need identified in the SEN Code of Practice (2015) are:
Communication and interaction
Cognition and learning
Social, mental and emotional health
Sensory and/or physical
There are a number of ways in which we can identify special educational needs:
Observation and assessment by class teachers: If our teachers think your child may not be making their age expected progress and consider this may be due to a special educational need, they will discuss this with you and with our SEND Lead. Our SEND Lead may then carry out observations, implement more specific assessments and gather further information from school and home. This information will be used to help put in place the support required to best meet your child’s learning needs.
Parental/Carer input: Parents/Carers know their children best. If you tell us you think your child has a special educational need, your class teacher will discuss this with you and the SEND Lead (Mrs Jones). From this we will discuss what is required moving forward in order to put in place the best support required to meet your child's needs.
We follow the graduated approach at Green Hammerton CE Primary School and Nursery:
